About Epic Systems
Epic says it was founded in a basement in 1979 with three half-time employees and develops software to help people get well, stay well and help future generations be healthier. Its electronic health records aim to give each patient a single, comprehensive medical record, and the company lists users ranging from academic medical centers, community hospitals and children's organizations to dental clinics, hospice, payers, rehab centers, retail clinics and urgent care. Epic describes itself as employee-owned and developer-led, and says it builds its own software rather than growing through acquisitions.
