How to convert a list to vCard, Excel or CSV

How do I turn a CSV or Excel contact list into a vCard file?

Drop the file above, pick vCard and press Convert and download. Each row becomes one contact card (vCard 3.0) with the name, company, job title, emails, phones, website and address from the columns we match, which you can change. Open the .vcf file on your phone, or import it into Google Contacts or iCloud.

The conversions this tool makes
FromToWhat you get
CSVExcel (.xlsx)A bold, frozen header row and sized columns. Long numbers and numbers with a leading zero, such as phone numbers and ZIP codes, stay as text, so nothing is rounded or lost.
Excel (.xlsx)CSVThe sheet you pick, as UTF-8 with a byte order mark, so Excel reopens accented names correctly. Dates come out as YYYY-MM-DD, with the time when there is one, and formulas as their last calculated value.
CSV or ExcelvCard (.vcf)One vCard 3.0 contact card per row, with name, company, job title, emails, phones, website and address. Rows with no name, company, email or phone are left out and counted.

FAQ

Converting lists: questions

Is my file uploaded?

No. Your browser reads the file and makes the new one on your own device. Nothing is sent to LeadQuasar or to anyone else, and closing the tab discards it. The only things the page downloads are its own code, including the Excel reader when you open or make an .xlsx file.

How do I get the .vcf file into my phone?

On an iPhone, open the file from Mail, Messages or Files and choose to add the contacts, or import it in Contacts at iCloud.com. On Android, open it with the Contacts app, or import it in Google Contacts on the web, which then syncs to the phone.

Which vCard version does it write?

vCard 3.0, which iPhone, Android, Google Contacts and Outlook all read. Commas, semicolons and line breaks inside a value are escaped and long lines are folded, as the standard requires, so a company name like “Smith, Jones & Co” arrives intact.

Does the vCard file work with Outlook?

Outlook reads vCards, but desktop Outlook may take only the first card from a file that holds many contacts. For Outlook, importing the list as CSV is usually the smoother route, and this tool can make that CSV too.

Which columns go on the contact card?

We match your columns from their headers: full name or first and last name, company, job title, email, phone, mobile, website, address and notes. Change any of them under “Contact card fields” before you download.

Will converting to Excel change my numbers?

No. Short plain numbers become Excel numbers you can add up. Anything that would change, such as a phone number Excel would show in scientific notation or a ZIP code with a leading zero, is kept as text exactly as written.

My Excel file has several sheets. What happens?

The first sheet with data is used, and a Sheet menu lets you pick another. Each conversion uses one sheet.

How big a file can it convert?

Up to 10 MB and 100,000 rows per file. Split a larger file into parts and convert each one.
