How we check that a business has no website
- We read the business’s own Google Maps listing. Every business we collect from Google Maps is read as it arrives, and each night another batch of businesses with no website on record is looked up by name and place.
- It counts only if the listing has no site of its own. No website link at all, or a link that is only a Facebook or Instagram page.
- A missing field is never enough. Open map data often leaves out a website a business does have, so a record with an empty website field is queued for a Google Maps check, not counted.
- Listings are re-read. A business that adds a website drops out of the list at its next reading.
How to find businesses without a website yourself
- Search Google Maps for a trade and a place, such as “plumbers in Leeds”.
- Open each result and look for the Website button next to Directions and Call.
- No Website button: note the business. A Website button that opens Facebook or Instagram: note it too.
- Search the business name once, to catch a site Google has not linked to the listing.
- Keep the phone number and review count: most of these businesses take calls, and reviews show they are active.

How to pitch a business that has no website
- Lead with what their customers cannot do today: check opening hours, see past work, find the service area or book without calling.
- Show, don’t describe. A one-page mock-up with their real business name, services and reviews lands better than a price list.
- Call as well as email. Owner-run businesses without a website usually answer the phone number on their listing.
- Price for a small business. Many are sole traders; a simple, fixed-price site with hosting included is the easy yes.

How do you know a business really has no website?
We read the business's own Google Maps listing. It counts only when the listing has no website link, or its only link is a Facebook or Instagram page. A record that simply has no website field is not enough: open map data often leaves out a site the business does have, so those are checked on Google Maps first.
Does a Facebook page count as a website?
No. A business whose only link is a Facebook or Instagram page is counted as having no website of its own, because it has nothing a customer can find by searching.
How often is the list updated?
Every day. New businesses are read as they are collected from Google Maps, and another batch of businesses without a website on record is looked up each night.
Which businesses most often have no website?
Owner-run trades that win work by referral and phone calls are the usual pattern. Counts by industry appear on this page as listings are read.
Can I contact these businesses by email?
Usually, with care. US business email falls under CAN-SPAM: say who you are, include an address and honour opt-outs. In the UK, limited companies can be emailed with an opt-out, but sole traders and many partnerships count as individuals and need consent first. Phone calls must respect the do-not-call registers where you call.
