LeadQuasar has 2,616 car dealership listings across 25 states. 2,584 (99%) have a phone number and 2,435 (93%) have a website, but only 15 have an email address. This is a phone list of businesses, not a list of named managers, so the work is getting from the front desk to the person who owns your problem.
What the records are
These are business listings: the dealership name, address, main phone line, website and Google rating. Only 304 records (12%) include a person's name. Expect to call the main number, not a manager's desk.
That is less of a drawback than it sounds. Dealerships are built to answer the phone. A main line almost always reaches a receptionist or an operator who routes calls all day, and the right question gets you transferred.
Know the org chart before you dial
A dealership is several businesses under one roof, and each has its own manager and budget. Ask for the wrong one and you get a polite "not interested".
| Department | Usually run by | Buys things like |
|---|---|---|
| Ownership | Dealer principal, general manager | Major software, facilities, insurance, advertising agencies |
| New and used sales | General sales manager, used car manager | Inventory tools, lead sources, reconditioning, transport |
| Internet sales, BDC | Internet sales or BDC manager | Chat, call tracking, texting, CRM add-ons |
| Finance and insurance | F&I manager | Warranty and protection products, menu software |
| Service and parts | Service director, parts manager | Parts supply, shop equipment, scheduling, uniforms, detailing |
Open with the department, not your product. "Who handles service-lane scheduling?" gets a name. "I'd like to talk about our platform" gets you put on hold forever. Once you have a name, ask for a direct email so you can follow up, since the list itself will not give you one.
The website is your research tool. 93% of listings have one, and many dealership sites include a staff page with managers' names and sometimes their direct lines. Check it before the call.
Where the dealerships are
Texas and California hold about half the list.
| State | Dealerships |
|---|---|
| Texas | 697 |
| California | 597 |
| Arizona | 174 |
| North Carolina | 121 |
| Indiana | 120 |
| Illinois | 117 |
Pennsylvania (116), Tennessee (109), Ohio (108), Michigan (108), Florida (100) and New York (89) round out the top dozen. Coverage is 25 states, so this is not a complete national directory.
Texas is spread across several metros: San Antonio (118), El Paso (116), Austin (114), Houston (114), Fort Worth (107) and Dallas (103). Sacramento (142) is the single largest city in the list. Philadelphia (115), Charlotte (112), Indianapolis (111), Chicago (106), Phoenix (103), Detroit (103) and Memphis (103) are all similar in size, which makes each one a tidy territory for a single rep.
Use the Google rating
2,236 of the listings carry a Google rating, and the average is 4.28. That number is useful two ways.
- As a filter. If you sell reputation management, review response or customer-experience tools, the dealers below the average are your first calls.
- As an opener. Service managers know their rating. "I noticed your service reviews" is a specific reason to call, and specific reasons get transferred.
Do not lead with a criticism, though. Name what you saw and ask a question.
Timing the calls
Dealership rhythm is predictable. Saturdays are the busiest sales day, and the end of the month is when sales managers are chasing targets. Call sales management early in the month and early in the week. Service departments are slammed first thing in the morning as cars are dropped off, so mid-morning or early afternoon lands better there.
