About Dallas Area Rapid Transit (DART)

Dallas Area Rapid Transit (DART) is a regional transit agency authorized under the Texas Transportation Code and created by voters in 1983 as a replacement for the city-run Dallas Transit System. It operates DART Light Rail, Trinity Railway Express commuter rail, bus routes, GoLink on-demand service and paratransit across member cities including Dallas, Plano, Irving, Garland and Richardson. DART Light Rail began operating in 1996. The agency is funded by a local sales tax levied in its member cities, is governed by a board appointed by those cities and has its own police department.
